We should desire to be in God*s will because outside of it we will expose ourselves to danger. We will be exposed to our enemies and God*s enemies. The middle of the verse because of my enemies exposes the danger. The way to avoid the danger is given twice, before the danger and after the danger. Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness . . . make thy way straight before my face.When believers are in the will of God, they have his protection from both sides, above, below, front and back. Verses 9 and 10 describe the enemies that will harm us when we are outside of God*s will. Psalms 5:9-10: For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. 10 Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
Verses 11 and 12 describe the people that will be a blessing to us when we are in God*s will. Psalms 5:11: But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee. 12 For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.Which sort of people do you expose yourself to, those who are in the will of God or those who are out of it? Are you regularly part of a Biblical church with people who are in the will of God or outside the church with people who are outside the will of God? There is also danger in churches whose members are outside the will of God. If the members of a church do nothing for the Lord except for an hour a week on Sundays, that is a red flag, they are outside the will of God. That is a church full of people that are probably enemies at least most of the time. At the very least, they are bad examples. Christianity is not a part-time hobby. We need to be in the company of some good examples, some Christians who keep themselves in the safety of God*s will all week long. |
